My first personal blogspot! I'm in an internet cafe in Cairo. not much time. among other things, today i've seen the pyramids of Giza, the tomb of merer-something, the massive statue of Ramses II that a museum was built around, and the papyrus institute that sells painted papyrus for ridiculous prices. There have been other things like FOOD (babaganoush, and baklava -honeycakes TO THE MAX i'm not kidding) and bartering too. i wish i had pictures to put up but i wasn't anticipating this stop at an internet cafe. prayer call has just started. goodness, so much to tell but i dont have patience and i'm now feeling pretty jetlagged. i'll just mention some things: saw trash thrown into the irrigation canal twice today which makes sense since this river-thing had trash flowing down its banks already in various places. i was pulled at by arabs who were trying to give me "the opportunity" to take pictures with camels next to the pyramids of giza. i went inside a claustraphobic tunnel to see the tomb in the second largest pyramid at Giza. I then understood what it might feel like to be claustraphobic. it was like a sana, and super humid sanas make me panic. but you can just step out of sanas...
i told a couple friends that i might let it get to my head that at least 2 egyptians now have told me i have beautiful eyes. i said under my breath once, dont tell me that you've said that to every other tourist! what? i have pretty eyes and probably lots of boyfriends? ok i'll buy your plastic pyramid souvenir!
OH did you know that the step pyramid in sakkara is the oldest known pyramid on earth?? built by imhotep. gosh my recall is GREAT today!
note to self: do blogging DAY OF so as to remember and record what the heck is happening in my life. must go. back hurts. shwarmas calling to my stomach person.
